How do I get to Fairy Meadows from Islamabad or Lahore?+
From Islamabad it's roughly 12-16 hours by road up the Karakoram Highway to Raikot Bridge, near Chilas. From there a shared 4x4 jeep climbs a rough track (around 90 minutes) to Tato village, and from Tato it's a 3-4 hour uphill hike, or a pony ride, to the meadow. From Lahore, add about 5-6 hours to reach Islamabad first. You can also fly Islamabad to Gilgit (GIL) and drive down, but those flights are weather-dependent and get cancelled often, so keep a road day in reserve.
What's the best season to visit Fairy Meadows?+
It's a summer-only spot. The jeep track and the camps usually open from around late May or June through September, sometimes into early October. July and August are the warmest and greenest, with the clearest views of Nanga Parbat. In winter the meadow is snowbound and the road up is not maintained, so the place effectively closes.
What are the top things to do and see at Fairy Meadows?+
The main draw is the direct view of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) rising straight ahead. From the meadow you can hike on to Beyal Camp and continue toward Nanga Parbat Base Camp and the Raikot Glacier viewpoint. Sunrise and sunset light on the peak, walks through the pine forest around Tato, and the stargazing after dark are all worth staying an extra night for.
Where can I stay at Fairy Meadows?+
You stay in the meadow itself. Options are wooden huts and cabins at places like Raikot Sarai and Fairy Meadows Cottages, or your own (or rented) tent on the camping grounds. Facilities are basic, with limited electricity and little to no mobile signal, so bring warm layers even in summer. Book huts ahead for the July-August peak, when the meadow fills up.
