The peace I found in Madinah: my first salam at the Prophet's ﷺ resting place
Nothing prepared me for the calm of Madinah. Here is my heartfelt account of sending salam upon the Prophet ﷺ, the Rawdah, and the city's gentle peace.

After the intensity and crowds of Makkah, arriving in Madinah felt like exhaling. We took the Haramain train from Makkah, and within a couple of hours we were stepping into a city that seemed to hum with a quiet, gentle peace. I had read about this feeling, but experiencing it is something else entirely.
The first sight of the green dome
I will never forget walking into the vast courtyards of Masjid an-Nabawi and seeing the green dome for the first time. My heart simply melted. Standing there, knowing the Prophet ﷺ rests beneath it, I found myself in tears before I had even said a word. We had travelled so far, and yet it felt like coming home.
Sending salam
The most moving moment of my entire journey was sending salam upon the Prophet ﷺ. I had booked a slot through the Nusuk app, which kept everything orderly. When my turn came, the volunteers guided us calmly, reminding everyone to keep moving and to lower our voices. I sent salam upon him ﷺ, then upon Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them. My voice trembled. Years of love for the Prophet ﷺ, carried since childhood, poured out in those few seconds.
The Rawdah
By Allah's mercy I was also granted a slot in the Rawdah during the women's timing. To pray two rak'ah in that blessed garden from the gardens of Paradise, surrounded by women weeping and making du'a, is a memory I will hold forever. It was crowded but the volunteers managed the flow with great care, and I reminded myself to be patient and gentle with everyone around me.
The gentle rhythm of the city
What struck me most was how Madinah slows you down. In the evenings we would sit in the courtyards under the great open sky, the famous umbrellas folded back, a soft breeze moving through. People read Qur'an, families sat quietly, and there was no rush. I spent long evenings simply sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ and making du'a for my family back in Pakistan.
What I carried home
I came to Madinah expecting to tick off Ziyarat sites. I left having had my heart softened in a way I cannot fully describe. My advice to anyone going: book your Nusuk slots early, go with deep adab and patience, and do not rush. Sit. Be present. Let the city's peace settle into you. If you would like help arranging your Ziyarat, the Umrah team can guide you. May Allah grant us all the honour of returning, again and again.
